Duchess

1932

Formation of the Society, making us one of the oldest in the country

1945

Founder member of the Northern Association of Model Engineers, with 25 members

1959

Start of building a 215m oval track at Springfield Park, Rochdale

1960

Track completed and opened to the public

1971

Permission granted by Rochdale Borough Council to raise the fee from 3d to 2p (present fee still a bargain at 50p)

1972

Extension to the Hut at the Park to bring it up to the present size

1991 - 1995

Major track extension alongside the Golf Course, to its present length of 604m

1996

Affiliated to the Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies

2001

Duchess of Buccleuch, a 31/2 inch gauge locomotive, donated to the Society by Margaret Sutcliffe, niece of David Woolfenden

2002

Duchess of Buccleuch restoration is completed and the locomotive is now back in full steaming condition with the Society

2005
Open Weekend, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the track extension alongside the Golf Course
